Odd Memories
May 11th is an odd day to me... My family moved to Lubbock, TX, in the summer of 1970. We witnessed firsthand the devastation a tornado can wreak. (Well, I say firsthand... we moved there after it hit, but the whole town was a shambles.) (see this site) The rumor when we moved there was that 3 very large (f4?) tornadoes hit Lubbock all at once. I personally hated Lubbock, and lived in fear of tornadoes the whole time we resided there. (Maybe 9 months) I remember being chased home from school by tumbleweeds. That is no joke! What an ugly town. Lots of bad things happened while we lived in Lubbock: My Dad was diagnosed with MS, I found out there wasn't really a Santa Claus, I earned one of my more prominent scars on my knee, and my dog had puppies in my bed. Oh, and there were a total of FIVE Lisas in my one little 2nd grade homeroom class. And, my brother was 12 and a total pain in the ass. I turned 8 in Lubbock. I've never been back. Maybe I should go visit the town some day, see if I can erase some of the dislike? Nah.
