Hook 'em!
So, UT baseball lives for another weekend :-). First round of regional playoffs "on the road to Omaha" will be this weekend, and we first play a team called the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Some of my New York-y friends or previous East Coasters will probably recognize that, but I have never heard of them. The other two teams in this regional are Arkansas (soooooooiee!) and Miami University (Ohio). Last year I don't think UT got the "opportunity" to play against the pigs, as they went "2 and Q" if I remember correctly. It's always fun to play a former SWC rival.
Let the tailgating begin!!!

I don't know
I'm just posting to post. This week was about as craptacular as I've seen in my 29+ years. Work sucks, but then something good happens and it's maybe okay. We finally dumped the Canadians that own us today, officially. It's so funny to read the press releases... r b c states their losses have been huge since acquiring the US mortgage division. From what I understand, our company wrote off a huge amount in bad debts to clean up their books, which in turned showed a huge loss. I mean, like they wrote off 92million in bad loans. Since we came along and cleaned it up. No Matter. V. glad to be rid of them. Now the new company spokesman is Bob Vila. hahahahaha.

VIVA!
I survived Vegas, but not sure how! I think I slept a total of 8 hours from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. Baby Cuzzin and I had a great time. Nothing outrageous or anything, just a good time! Barry Manilow was most excellent. (How could we miss on the front row) We took the new monorail down to the end of the strip, checked out a few hotels, encountered mob-sized crowds on Saturday evening due to a Nelly concert... and were totally exhausted on the way home. It was wonderful to see Mike & Otis, but way too short of a visit. Alison and I also saw a good band at our hotel, called Frankie Moreno. Of course, being the ever curious wife of a musician, I had to grill him on how they got the gig, how they promote themselves, etc etc. They were all very nice, and very talented. Here's a few Barry / Vegas photos, with more on the photo link over there.

Banner Day!
Just all kinds of excitement today! What is hopefully a prelude to a great Vega$ trip, I won $100 on a scratch off today...

AND... THE DISCH GOT ITS NEW SCOREBOARD! At the game last weekend they only had the bottom part done. It's actually a little small on the line scores... hard to read from the stands. But the video part oughta be cool! Here's some good contrasting photos. The old one...

AND THE NEW ONE!
I'll miss the games this weekend, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can get photos of the thing when it's turned on. Wow, in 48 hours I'll be sitting on the front row of a Barry Manilow show! Woo Hoo!5.11.2005
Odd Memories
May 11th is an odd day to me... My family moved to Lubbock, TX, in the summer of 1970. We witnessed firsthand the devastation a tornado can wreak. (Well, I say firsthand... we moved there after it hit, but the whole town was a shambles.) (see this site) The rumor when we moved there was that 3 very large (f4?) tornadoes hit Lubbock all at once. I personally hated Lubbock, and lived in fear of tornadoes the whole time we resided there. (Maybe 9 months) I remember being chased home from school by tumbleweeds. That is no joke! What an ugly town. Lots of bad things happened while we lived in Lubbock: My Dad was diagnosed with MS, I found out there wasn't really a Santa Claus, I earned one of my more prominent scars on my knee, and my dog had puppies in my bed. Oh, and there were a total of FIVE Lisas in my one little 2nd grade homeroom class. And, my brother was 12 and a total pain in the ass. I turned 8 in Lubbock. I've never been back. Maybe I should go visit the town some day, see if I can erase some of the dislike? Nah.

Guess Who???
Ha! check out this photo!!??!! Can you guess who it is? hee hee. Isn't he cute with hair? (love you baby!)
I'm sure he is antagonizing Malia here. (he still does)
Just cleaning up some folders on my computer and found some oldies that Ben's mom sent.

And.... 10 more days to Vega$!!

And DFF comes into the 21st Century!
Our beloved Disch-Falk Field is getting a little spruced up this weekend. Let's see... the Longhorn Baseball program has 5 National Championships... the most recent 2002... the stadium they play in, while very large, (holds about 7500 at capacity) is ummmm... OLD AND DECREPIT! By comparison, the football team's last national championship was in 1970...lo and behold, the Disch is in the process of receiving a new scoreboard! It will probably be one of those video scoreboards with tons of cheesey shit on it, but it will be kinda nice to be able to read the players' stats. The current one has so many "burnt" (used on purpose for burnt orange) out bulbs that it serves as a wagering enticer "So, how many homeruns does this batter have? RBI?" Usually it's missing just the right bulbs to where the 8 looks like zero... Even better, I think there are maybe 35 rows? going up in the grandstand. We sit on row 16. The painted numbers on the aisle stop at 14. It's always a hoot to watch the visiting fans stop dead in their tracks and go "shit! okay, that's 14.. 15... 16..." and on up to their row. You'd think a championship program at a university like Texas could at least afford to finish stenciling the numbers on the aisles... but it's been that way for years. So, nice fodder for us old-timers. So now the University has finally sprung for a half-million dollar scoreboard that was promised after the 2002 National Championship. I guess I am in a minority, being a UT baseball fanatic. I donate to the Longhorn Foundation every year, direct it to the baseball program, and buy my beloved seats each season as well. They were my mom's before 2001. She started buying them in 1985.
There is talk of renovations on the stadium, which quite frankly I'm not so sure about. Club seating, serving alcohol, etc. The Disch has a certain 30 year old personality that I like. It's predictable. There is always a line for the potty, (they only have 2 each) the hotdogs are over priced and cold, any alcohol consumption normally takes place in the parking lot (see previous post on tail-gating), but it's soooooooooooo AUSTIN.
{{{{ LOOK OUT! INCOMING RANT}}}}} So. Most people who know me even a little know I am a native Austinite. Yes, I can remember when the population signs read 100,000. I can remember when MoPac was a dream. I can remember when I-35 did not have an "upper deck", and there was no "flyover" at 183 and MoPac. Well hell, there was no MoPac. Right about where South 360 starts to turn to the Toys R Us hill? That was a dead end rock wall. "Manchaca Road" was a dirt road to Manchaca after William Cannon. and on and on and on I could go. {{{{ END OF RANT}}}} So I'll admit that as a 40+ year old, I'm a tad adverse to change. Here are a couple of pictures of the scoreboard that started this rant. That is all. Carry on. Nothing to see here. side note: After all this ranting and raving, the UT baseball team lost tonight on the road at Kansas, 5-2. WTF.

If Beagles could speak....
I think it's hilarious that, with Ben's rep as the photo maniac, the Beagle is giving him this look. To me, he's saying "Go away! Let me eat my carrot in peace!" I have a great video of Elway howling at Ben too, but I can't figure out how to share it other than email. That will be my weekend project. Happy Friday!
Oh, and check out Special K's web site. She had an interesting visitor near her cubicle on Thursday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PESO DAWG!
My ugly spotted Peso is 15 years old today! We've been through a lot together. I got her from a friend when she was only 5 weeks old. Her mother was a Dalmation, her father? well, who knows. Judging by the rest of the litter I'd say black lab. I also had her sister, PJ, for a long time, but we lost PJ in October of 2003. Peso was the mean one in the litter, always standing in the water dish so none of the other pups could get water, eating all the food... she's a little grumpy. Kind of like me.... Happy Birthday Grumpy Girl!

I'm TWO!

Cayle is 2! He had a great time at his party, thanks to all his mommy's hard work. Most of the whole fam damily was there... the highlight being I beat my brother at just about every game we played! hee hee. Apparently it doesn't matter how old you get, beating your big brother at Skee ball or a video game is always cool.
Here's my niece Krista Kay, who just turned 12, and my cousin's daughters Shelby (10) and Reese (almost 2), and one more of the birthday boy!

So, we are 18 days and 20 hours from Vega$ woo hoo!
