A Frog Turns 50

Kermit T. Frog is officially 50 years old... and his postage stamps have finally arrived! Happy Birthday Kermie!

Here's Kermit and the Pig at their press conference:

My favorite roommate ever, Brenda Klein ( oh the stories we have....) called me tonight from Pecos, Texas (way west, 2 hrs from El Paso) to tell me that Kermit will be visiting Kermit, Texas, in celebration of his birthday. She expected that I would be flying out and might need a place to stay. They are closing the main street and having a parade. Unfortunately it is on Friday October 14th, which is the weekend we leave for Disney. I'm sure I'll be at work til about midnight that night... Keep a look out folks, he could be coming to a town near you! Wonder if Disney's MGM studios, home of the Muppets (part deaux), will be doing anything special....Hmmm. Off to search the net for just that info.

Happy 80th Pan-grappy!

But really he's my Grand-dad, and really the only one I've ever known. Here's to many more years of sunrises!

Key West back to normal...Texas not so much...

Here's a screen shot of the web cam at the bar at Hogs Breath in Key West. (See a previous entry...) now looking back to normal for a Saturday afternoon. No doubt the persons sitting there are staring at the TV behind the bar.

Then, there's this:

HEB shelves 09232005

Which is in one of the larger HEB's in the area. This is the tortilla section of the bread aisle. There was not much for bread either. No hotdog or hamburger buns AT ALL. What's everyone in Austin think they are gonna do with all that food? Hopefully they are sharing it with the million plus Houston evacuees. Hurricane Rita attacked mostly Louisiana today, with the after affects (thunderstorms, tornadoes) stretching well up and down the eastern border of Texas. Thankfully Austin has been spared. I noticed early this morning it was windier than normal, but that's it.

Here she comes...

my hurricane map

This is my crude map of Lovely Rita, for those not in Texas that may be worried about us in Austin. I'm pretty sure we'll be okay, but the Texas Coast is in trouble. Heard on the news this morning that all of the major highways (I-45, I-10, US-290) are all switched to outbound only from the coast.

The corporate offices of my company are in Houston, so I imagine work will be affected. One good thing about the Canadians? Our servers are still in Ontario! Computers etc will work, but their will be no one to make the exceptions/decisions only our corporate officers can make.... I sure hope everyone gets the heck out of there safely! It will be interesting though, because homebuyers have zero patience. Um, hello, Cat 5 storm hitting Texas? Get it? It's bigger than your home purchase? Insurance companies are not writing any new policies until next week... lots of things will be affected. Oh well, I'll just roll my eyes at them (over the phone of course) and go on.

Okay, time for the hurricanes to stop....

Katrina destroys many areas on the Gulf Coast including one of our favorite places to visit, New Orleans. (see my post on Sept 1st about that)... and now Rita is headed for the Keys. We have been to Key West twice and absolutely love it there. ('specially since we got married there!) Here are some contrasting photos for you. This first one is from our visit to the Hogs Breath Saloon in March. This bar is what should be flowing with people in the 2nd picture, but apparently the Keys have been evacuated. The second photo is a screen shot of their web cam... which is described in the photo below (of Ben & Jon.) Our table was located by the furthest beam/pole there.

The web cam is located to the left of Ben in this photo...

Looking a little empty there right now! Hopefully nature won't unleash more fury on the poor Gulf Coast. Crazy.

Copy Cat

Okay, my friend K shares her IM convos on her blogger. I just converted to "gmail" and love it. There's a few of us that have some really bad random conversations on email, and gmail neatly organizes it all so you can follow even if you miss a couple of hours due to having to actually work. (the travesty) Anyway, this is one of the email threads from today. I just about peed my pants (I know, old news) when I was catching back up!! I'm not going to give any background info on this. Those that know us well as a group will get it. This group of girls can be so SEINFELD. We can have huge conversations about nothing and totally love it! It's quite possibly a "you had to be there deal" but I laugh so hard every day with these gurlz... try to follow. I know this is long, but this is an every day event. I just had to share.

(2:10pm) Lammy(a/k/a Look at the Monkey Farwell) : New thread. C and I are distressed about how the emails get "messy" so we are starting over. The old one was out of hand anyway.

I think I'm going to bake a pie this weekend. I've never made a pie, but I don't think it'll be THAT hard. It's the crust I worry about. But I'm gonna give it a whirl.

(2:37pm) Centrum Silver a/k/a birthday girl: Oh ok, I see. Yeah it's still screwed up. :-)
Ok back to pie...

(2:40pm) Lizard sings the Opera : Whoa! What kind of pie and what for?

(2:41pm) Lammy: I think apple. My gramma makes awesome apple pie and she said it's just from the Betty Crocker cookbook (which my mom gave to both me AND my sister when we moved out on our own). I figure I'll give it a whirl. Although, I have mini-appliances, so I'm not sure how my oven will do.

Wish me luck.

(2:42pm) I don’t like TV JBug: Mmmmmm....pie.....

(2:42pm) Lammy: Can't tell... you started a brand new email (there was no forwarded text?)

(2:44pm) I don't like TV JBug: Yeah, I thought that would fix it. I dunno. I'll shut up about it now. :)

(2:44pm) Whiskey aka Centrum bday girl...: no it's still screwed up.

pie...keep on the subject

(2:46pm) Lammy K: Haha...

"pie... keep on the subject"
My OTHER gramma ("special water" gramma) used to make strawberry rhubarb pie. THAT is good. But I think I should start small. Apple seems safe...

(2:49pm) Whiskey centrum etc: I wish I had some of gramma's "special water" right now

(2:50pm) Lammy K: Gramma's "special water" n' tonic w/ a twist of lime

(2:54pm) Whiskey Gnat Centrum bday girl... : Exactly! Yum!

(4:09pm) me!: Hi 'tards. Been busy, I see!

Now, about this pie. I absolutely hate apple pie, but of course it's not about me,eh?
And... I make a mean cherry pie. I use pilsbury ready pie crust. not heb brand, has to be pilsbury.
I highly recommend them!

Glad you fixed your name whiskey. e me some wine, please.

(4:14pm) Lammy K: Ewww... cherry.
I haven't decided on the crust yet, so if I opt to not make it from scratch, I'll absolutely take that recomendation. :)

The Boys are Back in Town!

The Boys:
group 1

Their tour started in Dallas, on to Lawrence, KS to open for Bob Schneider, then to
South Park, Colorado:
south park colorado

Nooner has returned from their Middle American Tour. From the stories I hear and the photos I see, they had a great time! Ben and I have not been to Colorado in a few years, so I think this trip rekindled his desire to move there. No worries, I'll convince him otherwise. :-) I'm a Texas girl and if the weather goes below 40 degrees, I am NOT happy. And if Lisa ain't happy... well, you get the idea. Welcome home, Nooner Boys!!

Ouchie!

It's a blurry photo (ben's got the good camera somewhere in middle america-I used my cell phone) But I need some sympathy here! This morning as I wandered bleary eyed through the house (waiting for the damn coffee pot to hurry it up) I found a box with my little toe. Yep, 'tis broke. That fat little thing is a nice shade of black right now. As I told N, I know it's not 2 breaks on an arm or anything, but it do hurt! I have about 6 weeks to Disney, so hopefully it will heal fast. (and by the way, special note... that mole on my 2nd to last toe is a good identifier if you need to id me by my feet. :-) ) (Yes, I AM weird)

MANDY!

If you needed more proof...

that the media is ridiculous---

I took the first photo in November of last year; CNN (AP wire) has the 2nd one posted on their web site, where the caption reads: "Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina on Monday"... Um, yeah. All the street signs/lamp posts look like that on Bourbon Street. Always have.

I like this mobile blogging! Hanging out anywhere and you can post away! :-)

It works!

This video is hilarious if I can get this to work! Thanks to my Blog buddy Special K for her assistance...

If it works, please right click the link and "save target as". It's a quicktime video...

It works... so I added another one. These are from the College World Series, which I had the pleasure of visiting in June as Texas whooped up on some Florida Gators for their 6th National Championship :-)

The first one is my favorite... it's me screaming like a fool and still trying to video the dog pile on the pitcher's mound, after the last out.

The 2nd one is really really bad - if you have an aversion to way off key singing... well, watch it anyway.

Wow.

Seeing the after-effects of Hurricane Katrina is incredible. I'm glad Ben and I took so many photos last time we were in New Orleans, because I'll bet it's never the same again. Just wanted to post some of my favorites of the beautiful Big Easy....of course the loss of life is greater than the loss of property, I don't mean to imply otherwise.
