MMMMMM... ghoulash

So, what did you do with your leftovers this week? I took the small amount of turkey that my brother-in-law, Paul, didn't eat... :-) ... and made it into something maybe Ben will eat. He has a tendency to mix everything on his plate anyway. It tastes a lot better than it looks. Besides, everything is good with brown rice, right?

Yum-O! Delish!

Just borrowing a few Rachael-isms there to describe my first Sushi Experience! I've been bugging my friend Kristin for a few weeks now about wanting to try sushi. I've been bugging her because I know she loves it... so I felt like she needed to be the one to start me off. And I love it! We had Philadelphia rolls, spicy tuna rolls, ummmmm... oh yeah, California rolls and something called Hot Rolls. We started with miso soup that was very good as well. K had saki, I stuck with my chardonnay. We ate at a place called Umi Sushi Bar and Grill. Thank you Kristin! I absolutely loved it and can't wait to try new kinds!

You'll note in the photo that I have not mastered chopsticks yet. Luckily they have beginner's sticks for folks like me.

Food was good, Football was good, bellies were full. I love cooking all that great food and love eating it all even more. About two-thirds of the way through our meal I realized I didn't have any turkey on my plate! Happy Thanksweeniemas to all!

Aaaahhh, The Bowls!

Special K and I attended the fundraiser today at ClayWays Pottery Studio and Gallery. (as mentioned previously) I’m really glad I came across that article! I don’t think I would have ever known about it otherwise. My photos are here. This one was taken by K. Very cool idea. I bid in the silent auction for a bowl signed by Robert Earl Keen. I probably got outbid, we left at 1:00 or so, and it had 2 more hours to go. But we’ll see! There was a long line to get in, very well organized bowl selection and payment. They had a little assembly line set up for washing and drying the bowls so you could then have them filled up with soup! K, being the lover of all things small, bought bowls too small for soup, so borrowed one of my jethro sized ones. I had Chicken Tortilla Soup, she had French Onion. Both were yummy and came with our choice from several types of breads. I hope to be involved with it next year. I found a little bit more information about the project here. And, I ended up buying three bowls, one of which is perfect for Ben and his cereal. (Here's a photo of the new bowls, compliments of Karmalized Special K.) Check out her photo set too!

Beagle Total Concentration

This is known as Serious Concentration. Beagles are completely ruled by their noses, especially for food.

More Backyard Antics

I have so many photo opportunities, right in my very own back yard. Three dogs, all with very distinct personalities... Ben and I watch them out the back windows all the time and are constantly amused. I know... we are easily amused... but still. The following event happens about 10 times every day.

Update on my Update

It's official - Huston Street has been named AL Rookie of the year! It's fun to remember watching him at the Disch. He was so good, he'd play third base, then in about the 7th inning, someone would run out of the dugout and start warming up with him to go in for relief pitching. While he was playing 3rd! - usually the pitching coach would be s-l-o-w-l-y walking out to the mound to have a little conference with the infield. That was all the time Street needed. They'd put him on the mound and WHAM! Before you knew it the game was over....another UT win. My brother still owes me for a bet he lost. About mid way thru the season of Huston Street's junior year, we had a debate about whether he'd go pro that year, or come back to UT for his senior year. I told David he was crazy if he thought the guy would come back for another year! He insisted. My Uncle Sammy even chimed in on David's side of the argument. So we bet. I have witnesses to the bet. Street went in the first round of the draft later that summer to the Oakland A's. I'm still waiting for David to pick up the tab for my season tickets.

The Awakening of the Beagle

As previously discussed, we are owned by one spoiled Beagle.  One morning this past week I decided to shoot the progression of him waking up.  It would actually be a few more photos, because first he drags himself out from under the covers to lay on the pillows.  Then he might crawl back under for a bit.  The following photo progression is after the 2nd crawl back under.  He is a great source of entertainment for us!

Ah, all Beagles you could ever hope for! Can be found here!

Empty Bowl Project

I have a thing about bowls.  I love them.  To borrow a phrase, I lerve them.  I have bowls in my cabinets older than me, (shoosh Nicole) hand-me-downs from my mother.  All sizes and colors.  I was reading Austin Monthly and came across an event that really caught my eye. This pottery studio, ClayWays, is presenting an event called the  Empty Bowl Project, "where professional potters, celebrities, students and volunteers from the studio will sell handmade bowls.  People can buy these bowls and enjoy soup and bread made by various Austin restaurants for a suggested minimum donation of $15.  ... All money collected will be given to the Capital Area Food Bank." (from Austin Monthly) It will be held on Sunday, November 20 at ClayWays Pottery Studio & Gallery, 5442 Burnet Road in Austin.  I think I'll do it! Wanna join me?

Just look at all those bowls!  Makes my eyes glaze over.  (pun intended)
